Family Fun Fridays - A Day of Tales

Story Fest

Friday 15 August
11.00-16.00

Build a story! Tell a tale! Spin a yarn! Join us for a day of storytelling, with popular tales from far and wide. Delve into our reading Den with a book from our Pop Up Library. Make a bookmark or decorate a book bag (£3). The event is curated by Story Spinner.

Spinning yarns will be:

Story Spinner with A Child's Garden by Michael Foreman and The Magic Story Pot by Rebekah Lattin-Rawstone

Patrick Ryan will tell Fun Fables and Fairy Tales

Shama Rahman will weave folktales from Bengal with her sitar and voice. Magic, kings, queens... and adventure!

Amelia Bell with The Teddy Bear's Picnic

Griot Chinyere, who will blend a reverence for culture, a wonderful sense of playfulness and her skills as a movement stylist to perform a lyrical tale from Somalia

Composer Eliot Short and his Story Ballads

Members of Skewbald Theatre with the Caribbean folk tale The King Who Wanted to Touch the Moon

At 12.00 and 14.00 Discover will be running story building workshops (sign up on the day). Welcome aboard the good ship Discover, where Captain Sam needs a new crew of sailors aged 4 and over to create an adventure across the high seas. Using props and objects, children will shape a story from their own imaginations and join in with bringing an exciting voyage of exploration to life!
