Volunteer Invigilators

The V&A Museum of Childhood is currently looking for Volunteer Invigilators for its new exhibition, Small Stories: At Home in a Dolls' House.

We are recruiting for Volunteer Invigilators to support the Front of House team. Invigilators are responsible for a range of visitor services including safety, security, provision of information and interaction with visitors.

To succeed in this role you should have excellent visitor care and communication skills, and a good understanding of the importance of safety and security in a large public building. You will enjoy working in a 'customer first' environment and be able to react to the different needs of the Museum's diverse range of visitors. Working knowledge of a second language is desirable.

The Museum is popular with school groups and family audiences, which can make the galleries very full of children and adults. As a volunteer you should be comfortable approaching and talking to visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The galleries can be noisy when busy and the role will involve moving around and patrolling the exhibition gallery.

Volunteers will be asked to work one day per week from 9.30 to 18.00, or a half day of 9.30 to 14.00 or 13.30 to 18.00. Ideally we would be looking for volunteer that can commit to the full period of the exhibition (13 December 2014 - 6 September 2015), but a 6 month minimum is requested due to the level of training required.

Volunteers will receive training for the role, so no previous experience is not required, however an interest in history or childhood related objects is preferred but not necessary.

Please send a copy of your CV with covering letter outlining your interest in the role to mocvolunteer@vam.ac.uk with the subject line Volunteer Invigilator Application.

Other volunteer roles

We don't have any vacancies for other volunteers at present, but we will be recruiting again in March 2015.

The Museum also runs student and graduate internships in the following departments: Collections, Exhibitions, Director's Office, Marketing and Learning.

Interns must be aged 18 or over, a registered college or university student or a recent graduate and able to commit to a minimum four week internship (full or part-time).

At the present time all intern placements have been filled.
